Made it out to Timber Linn Park early Saturday morning for the hot air balloon launch.
I’m not terribly happy with most of my shots. Trying to catch the vibrancy of the balloons while not washing out the dull gray sky was a challenge and I’m afraid I didn’t meet it too well.
But I had a few moments where I caught some clouds or sunlight.
The entire set can be viewed at Flickr, here.
The launch itself was spectacular to see — I’d recommend it next year to anyone.
Moments… frozen in memory but not my camera, much to my chagrin.
Part 1
… we are at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. A short woman stands underneath a painting, hands clasped behind her back, long gray hair coiled into a bun. She is perfectly centered, gazing up at the painting, inches away from it.
… we are driving along a two-lane highway on a cloudy, drizzly day. Out in a green field, there is a boy in a bright red coat, facing a gated fence. Several sheep are behind him, also facing the fence. On the other side of the open gate, stands one lone sheep, looking out at the rest of the flock.
… we are driving home from work, passing a local farm. There is a blonde boy in a blue and white striped shirt, sitting on a hay bale and bundling handfuls of yellow daffodils together. A white bucket sits at his feet, brimming with more flowers.
Bath time!
The chickens like to hang out under our porch when it’s hot & they get really into their dust baths.
We now have names for four of the hens. There’s HH (pronounced with a jaw-clenched-upper-crust accent) who used to be the head hen, but seems to have been knocked down a notch. There’s Floppy who has the floppiest of combs and who is now the head hen. There’s Gimpy, she of the (now healed) broken foot. (Not politically correct, sorry.) Last and at the bottom of the pecking order, there is Bitey. Guess why we call her that?
Haven’t named the fifth yet because she doesn’t really seem to have any special characteristics.
Egg production is well underway. Gimpy has finally re-joined the flock, thank goodness. We’ve had a few skirmishes among all the birds, and some bloodshed, but nothing catastrophic.
23 weeks old tomorrow! Almost six months old.
At LAST! I finally have a couple of things to add to the Etsy shop. This is hand-dyed fingering weight sock yarn. Clicking on the photos will take you to the listings:
I found this undyed sock yarn at the Sock Summit (yes, really) up in Portland this weekend. If these do well, I may add this line to my shop in addition to the hand-spun.
Some recently finished skeins… finally got a chance to take some photos this morning.
Just finished this one yesterday. BFL, chain-plied, about 248 yards:
50/50 Superwash Merino & Tencel from Squoosh. Beautiful but super slippery, making consistency difficult for me. I think I prefer a smaller percentage of tencel in my rovings:
Corriedale from Dicentra Designs. Not my most perfect yarn, but the colors make me giddy, so I don’t care!
Anyone want some yarn?
