Miley 6-29-11

Marcus 6-29-11

Marcus, in particular, tends to get a little sun-drunk. He rolls around like he has catnip.

This is an absolutely horrible phone-camera shot of my cat, Miley:

IMG_20110609_130501

She was sitting there looking at me so innocently, I quickly fumbled for the phone and took the shot before she walked away. The story here is that while grocery shopping, I bought a little bag of Skittles. I brought the grocery bags in the house and set them on the counter, then went back outside for a few minutes to do something. In mere moments, Miley ascertained that there was crinkly plastic within the grocery bags, dug it out (without disturbing the other groceries!), tossed it to the floor, and attacked it.

Then she just sat there and acted all cute.

Here’s what happens when I try to photograph some yarn that’s ready to go into the shop:

Miley Interrupts my Yarn Photography Session

"Whatcha doin'? Huh? Hi! Whatcha doin'? Look at me!"

She jumped right onto the table, under the lights, sat herself down on the backdrop and started cleaning her paws. And she knows she can get away with it, too, the little devil.

Today’s Daily Shoot assignment was to feature the color yellow in some way. I found a bit of yellow yarn in my stash and gave it to Marcus. We spent about half an hour playing… and it was tough to shoot! Active kitteh is active.

I got four photos that I liked, but here’s the one I submitted to the page:

black cat + yellow yarn

Here are the other three:

The shots that didn’t come out are all the ones where he KILLED THE YARN, GRRRR!

Marcus 1-12-11

It’s cold in here!

We think Marcus is an American Bombay… according to the Wikipedia article for the breed, they are heat seekers. He certainly does seem to find the warmest spots in the room.

I found out today that Miley’s made some friends.

miley watchcat

This is an older photo, but I walked into the living room today and discovered her doing basically this, watching the trash truck at our curb. Then the guys started to roll the truck forward and she got nervous and jumped down, then popped only her head back up over the back of the couch to watch them go by. They were going so slowly that even though I couldn’t see them, I knew they must have been watching her as well.

They finally saw me standing there and we all grinned and waved. My funny girl.

Mei Mei

I finally settled on a name for our new kitty… Mei Mei.

Now, if only I could get all three cats to become friends. *sadface*

Day 10 was a day to rest from spinning, so instead I washed 13 skeins of yarn and dyed this Polwarth:

Polwarth - Sunflower

Except I decided I hated the chestnut brown color with the yellow – at least using this method for dyeing – so today I overdyed the whole thing with cherry red and golden ochre. Now it reminds me of those flames that get painted on cars. In a good way, though. Pictures tomorrow.

Day 11 – Didn’t get much spinning done today. I spun up a little sample of the above fiber to be sure I hated it (yep), and then I got started on this Targhee that I dyed:

Day 11 Mosaic

Took me a couple of false starts to figure out what I wanted to do with it, but finally decided to split off three even sections, with the red by itself, and then do a 3-ply. Will probably finish this tomorrow.

Tomorrow’s a big day for Visitor Cat… she’s finally going to the vet. And if I get the green light on her health, she’s probably coming into the house. Yes, I’m nervous about it.

mabel

I kinda started calling her “Mabel” in my head, but its not set in stone.
