Tour de Fleece 2011 – Days 5-8

Well, I had the best of intentions to spin every day of the tour, but it just didn’t happen on Friday. I was getting ready to vend at the “Crazy Daze” event in downtown Albany on Saturday. (Thanks to everyone who came out to enjoy the sun and the bargains!)

Anyway, here is my progress from days 5, 6, and 8:

I’m particularly happy with day 8… I spent the day practicing with the spindle, and by the end I had a little under 100 yards of lace weight singles yarn. I am starting to get it, whoo hoo!

Am I boring ’cause I like browns and tans? (Wait! Don’t answer that.)

I purchased this Merino/Tencel (50/50) fiber from Fat Cat Knits and spun it into a fingering weight singles yarn. There are about 218 yards in 2 oz. I just find the colors so soothing and beautiful, like playing with rocks in a shallow stream.

This is the latest yarn to come off the wheel. I really love this one… it makes me long for summer and an ice cream cone!

It’s a sport weight yarn with about 130 yards in 1.8 ounces. The fiber is a lovely Merino/silk blend from BohoKnitterChic Spins.

Tour de Fleece 2010 – Days 7-9

Been working on this for four days now… have the first bobbin done and am working on the second.

Decided to take a break today (Day 9) and ply this fiber that I’d already spun. It’s merino that I dyed a while back with Easter egg dyes:

As you can see, the final picture is much too orange… took the shot in some bad light. The fiber is more of an overall pinkish-red as the roving photo above shows better. The final yarn is about 4 oz, 368 yards, and about 18 wpi.

Yarn & nothing but yarn.

Some recently finished skeins… finally got a chance to take some photos this morning.

Just finished this one yesterday. BFL, chain-plied, about 248 yards:

50/50 Superwash Merino & Tencel from Squoosh. Beautiful but super slippery, making consistency difficult for me. I think I prefer a smaller percentage of tencel in my rovings:

Corriedale from Dicentra Designs. Not my most perfect yarn, but the colors make me giddy, so I don’t care!

Anyone want some yarn?
